Stripped Back & Minimal Bridal Beauty: Natural Makeup + Afro Hair

Ideas

The editorial concept behind these sublime images was to present a sense of dreaming and waiting – the feelings many of us have been feeling after living such a long time under restrictions.

The focus of the editorial was very much so on the beauty element, and Zoe Cornhill of Knot Your Average Bride has done an amazing job of showing how effortlessly fresh and elegant a minimal, pared back bridal makeover can look. The shoot in fact took place at Zoe’s lovely hill top house in Leigh-on-Sea, with views of the sea.

Knot Your Average Bride + Follow

“We wanted to create something effortlessly cool and contemporary to inspire couples planning their wedding. We stripped things back and explored minimalism within bridal, embracing a natural look and feel to create a laid back vibe.”

“It is from here that Zoe Cornwell runs her hair and makeup business – Knot Your Average Bride. Her work is a fusion of bridal meets fashion.”

Lottie Topping Photography + Follow

“Zoe elevates natural beauty and brings a freshness to the wedding scene.”

“We always loved the juxtaposition of studio and shore for our images. We created a studio set up and of course we ventured down to the shore.”

“The neutral aesthetic of both, gave us a great simplistic backdrop. We felt that Faye Victoria Bridal’s dresses and Lauren Mizon’s veils deserved the elements to showcase how the fabric moved in the wind and looked in the natural elements. Under Shelley Lochrie’s creative eye, the styling came to life.”

“There was an opportunity for the photography to be more creative, with the styling being stripped back and neutral.”

“Using the girls as muses, Lottie Topping encouraged them to move freely, playing with light, wind and movement. It was about finding the in-between and unexpected within the constructed moments.”

“The casting and shoot production was graciously pulled together by Charlotte O’neill of Mastini Productions, who has a background in fashion production.”

“She seamless tied the shoot together and allowed us creatives to do our thing, while she revelled in the organisation.”
